Children come first, always. Santa Calls has a child safeguarding policy and a named safeguarding lead. Every call is designed around one simple idea: a magical few minutes with Father Christmas, with a grown-up right there the whole time.
1On every call
- Father Christmas asks to speak to a grown-up first, and an adult must be with the child for the whole call.
- He never asks for surnames, addresses, schools, photos or contact details.
- He never asks a child to keep a secret, and never suggests meeting, calling back or messaging.
- He keeps every conversation warm, kind and age-appropriate, with no scary or grown-up topics.
- He never promises specific presents, and he steers clear of anything you list in the "topics to avoid" box.
2If a child says something that worries us
Every call is recorded so we can act quickly if a child says something that suggests they may not be safe. If that happens:
- Father Christmas stays calm and kind, and gently encourages the child to talk to a grown-up they trust.
- He brings the call to a warm, gentle close.
- Our safeguarding lead reviews the call.
- If we believe a child may be at risk, we contact the right people, such as children's services or the police.
3How we look after recordings
- Call recordings and transcripts are deleted within 30 days.
- The only exception is where we need to keep a recording for a safeguarding concern or a complaint. We keep it securely and only for as long as we need to.
- We never share children's details with schools or anyone else for marketing.
Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
4For schools and parents' associations
If your school or PTA shares an elf code with families, we only ever tell you how many times your code was used. We never tell you who used it, and we never share any family's or child's details with you. We're happy to answer any safeguarding questions before you share Santa Calls with parents.
